Traditional Yugi, Premium Quality

[Nothyang] 1 Person Essentials Yugi Set

We’re thrilled to introduce Nothyang to Gochujar!

Nothyang has been honored as the #1 Top Winner in Korea Best Brands for Yugi Brassware for five consecutive years (as of 2024) and is ISO 9001 certified, ensuring every step of production meets world-class quality standards.

Their Yugi pieces have been featured in popular Korean dramas such as Itaewon Class, It’s Okay To Not Be Okay, Private Lives, and 2 Days & 1 Night.

Each Nothyang piece is handcrafted and meticulously polished using traditional Korean techniques. The result is brassware that feels both modern and timeless — a favorite among Korean food stylists and restaurateurs alike.

If you’re new to Yugi brassware, we recommend starting with Nothyang’s 1-Person Essential Yugi Set.

This set includes six essential pieces — everything you need for a complete Hansik (Korean meal):

  • Nothyang Rice Bowl (1pc)

  • Nothyang Rice Bowl Lid (1pc)

  • Nothyang Soup Bowl (1pc)

  • Nothyang Chopsticks (1pc)

  • Nothyang Spoon (1pc)

  • Nothyang Chopstick Holder (1pc)

What sets Korean Yugi (also known as Bangjja) apart from other types of bronze is its precise alloy ratio — 78% copper and 22% tin. This perfect balance gives Yugi its signature golden sheen, which becomes even more radiant with use and regular polishing.

Yugi also naturally inhibits the growth of viruses, bacteria, and microorganisms, which is why it was once used to serve the Korean Royal Family.

Today, Yugi has made a strong comeback as a luxury heirloom and premium gift, often chosen for newlyweds and housewarming celebrations.

If you’re beginning your journey into Korean dining or food styling, Nothyang’s 1-Person Essentials Set is the perfect introduction to Korea’s timeless brassware tradition.

Beautiful dishware

I ordered the 6 piece Bangjja set after I had lived in Korea for a few months. I wanted to bring the beautiful traditional dishware back home but was unable to carry it back with me given how heavy it is.
I found this website and decided to order 4 sets. The dishes came well packaged and arrived quickly. They were so beautiful out of the box I almost didn’t want to use them!

I love using them almost daily. It’s a nice reminder of my time in Korea and it really elevates my meals :)

Iconically Korean

If you like watching Korean dramas you should be able to appreciate the feeling of owning a Yugi set. Playing it in your hands tells high level of quality; actually using it for your meals completes the satisfaction of reliving a Korean tradition. I am very happy with my Yugi sets from Gochujar which also comes with very responsive and caring customer service. Highly recommended to anyone who likes the same ideas.

Yugi (Bangjja) brassware is created by melting a 78:22 ratio of copper to tin, producing its signature golden tone and natural antibacterial properties.

This ratio must be exact to produce authentic Korean Yugi (Bangjja) ware.

Important Notes

All products are handmade, so there may be slight variations in size, capacity, or appearance. As a result, minor differences in color or shape may occur. Please note that returns or exchanges for these natural variations may not be possible.

1. For the first month after purchase, wash the utensil and wipe it thoroughly dry with a soft cloth after each use.

2. When storing salty or acidic foods — such as soy sauce, pickles, or foods seasoned with strong sauces or vinegar —the copper surface may oxidize and change color over time. This is a natural reaction.

3. When being used for the first time - with hot food such as rice or soup - small white spots or marks may appear. This is a normal characteristic of copper and not a defect.

4. Due to the natural properties of copper, the surface will gradually develop a warm golden tone after 2–3 months of use

Precautions When Using

1. Using steel wool may scratch or damage the surface, so do NOT clean with steel scrubbers.

Instead, use a regular 3M Dishwashing Sponge — the dark-green, coarse side — or Nothyang's Yugi scrub (details below).

2. Do NOT use dishwashers, dish dryers, sterilizers, ovens, microwaves, or induction cooktops — Yugi products should not be exposed to very high heat or electronic appliances.

3. Due to the natural properties of Yugi, exposure to skin oils or air may cause slight discoloration over time, which can reduce the product’s shine.

(Tip: Avoid touching the surface with bare hands, especially if giving it as a gift,as fingerprints may leave marks that darken gradually)

4. When not in use for an extended period, store in a dry, well-ventilated area away from moisture.

How to Care for Brassware (Yugi)

By following the instructions below, you can enjoy your beautiful, golden brass bowls and utensils for decades!

1. Before First Use - Soak in Water With Vinegar!

1. Mix warm water and vinegar in a 30:1 ratio — about 5 tablespoons of vinegar per 2 liters of warm water — and soak the brassware for about one hour.

2. Afterwards, rinse it off with dish soap & water

3. Then dry-off thoroughly with a towel.

2. Washing & Storing

Wash the Yugi products as you would regular tableware, with dish soap and sponge.

After washing, dry thoroughly with a clean cloth to remove all moisture — any remaining droplets may leave dark stains as they dry.

3. Keep It Shiny (Polish Periodically)

If your brassware has become heavily discolored or looks weathered, try using a copper polishing cream, such as Wright’s Copper Cream.

Gently rub following the grain of the metal. This will restore the original color and create a thin protective coating on the surface.

4. Removing Stains or Oxidation Spots

If you notice visible stains or oxidation marks, gently scrub the surface with a Yugi scrubbing pad or the green scouring side of a dish sponge.

Make sure both the pad and the brassware are completely dry — no water should be used during polishing.

How to use Nothyang's Yugi Scrub Pad

3aaa.jpg__PID:0f7f274f-bd44-4bee-b4d5-b2beaf14c0a2

STEP 01 - Make sure both the Yugi piece and the polishing pad are completely dry (absolutely no water involved). Then, gently rub the dry surface in the direction of the grain.

(For the sides, move left to right -  as shown in the video below. For the bottom, move in circular motions)

STEP 02 - After polishing, apply a mild dish soap with a soft sponge and wash thoroughly.

STEP 03 - Rinse well, then dry-off completely with a clean cloth before storing.

Tip: Use the silver side of the Nothyang Yugi Scrub Pad for light tarnish to achieve a bright shine. For heavier tarnish, use the black side for stronger polishing.

Q: When scrubbing/polishing, I see a black powder - what is it?

That black powder is completely harmless and natural. It’s a byproduct of the polishing process that occurs when you rub the Yugi surface — not dirt or coating.

When Yugi (Korean brassware) is scrubbed, the friction causes a tiny amount of surface oxidation and micro-particles of copper and tin to mix with the polishing residue. This creates a fine black powder.

Simply rinse it off with clean water after polishing, then wipe thoroughly dry. You’ll notice the powder becomes less noticeable over time as the surface stabilizes through regular use.

Q: Does the yugi's golden sheen change over time?

Due to the natural properties of Yugi, the surface will gradually develop a warm golden tone after 2–3 months of use.

Q: I smell a slight metallic smell... how do I remove it?

That’s actually the scent of copper, and it’s completely normal — part of the natural break-in process of genuine Yugi.

To remove the smell, follow these steps:

1. Mix warm water and vinegar in a 30:1 ratio — about 5 tablespoons of vinegar per 2 liters of warm water — and soak the brassware for about 10 minutes.

3. Wash thoroughly with dish soap and a sponge, then rinse under hot running water.

4. Soak it again in the same hot water and vinegar solution for another 10 minutes.

5. Wash and rinse once more with soap and hot water.

6. Dry completely with a clean cloth.

This should eliminate most of the smell. If you still notice a faint copper scent, don’t worry — it will fade naturally after a few weeks of regular use and washing.

Q: Can I use yugi in the dishwasher / microwave / oven?

Do NOT use dishwashers, dish dryers, sterilizers, ovens, microwaves, or induction cooktops — yugi products should not be exposed to high heat or electronic appliances.

Q: I see a stain - how do I remove it?

To remove stains, use the coarse (dark green) side of a dry 3M Dishwashing Sponge — or the NOTHYANG Yugi Scrub Pad.

STEP 01 - Make sure both the brassware and the polishing pad are completely dry (no water involved). Then, gently rub the surface in the direction of the grain.

(For the sides, move left to right - as shown in the video below. For the bottom, move in circular motions)

STEP 02 - After polishing, apply a mild dish soap with a soft sponge and wash thoroughly.

STEP 03 - Rinse well, then dry completely with a clean cloth before storing.

NOTE - Use the silver side of the Nothyang Yugi Scrub Pad for light tarnish to achieve a bright shine. For heavier tarnish, use the black side for stronger polishing.
