Good Fortune, Wrapped in Silk Threads
Korean Fortune Pollock (Bugeo)
Next time you’re walking out of a restaurant in Korea, look above the shop door.
You may spot a dried fish, hanging above the door.
It’s dried pollock, known as ‘Bugeo’ (북어) in Korea.
But why’s it hanging there?
Bugeo was often used as an offering in Korean folk rituals.
In Korean folklore, pollocks symbolize the fish god, which has protective powers and guards against bad spirits & omens.
Many Koreans - to this day - adhere to this folk tradition and hang a bugeo (dried pollock) when opening a new business or constructing a building.
The bugeo hangs over the door with a skein of thread, in hopes that the pollock's big eyes and open mouth will keep out bad energy and attract fortunate events.
Today, we offer a wonderfully crafted bugeo - made of pinewood - that can be hung in your house as home deco and represent Korean culture.
It’s offered in two designs:
01. Flower Pollock: This bugeo is covered with a variety of Korean flowers like peony, pomegranate, chrysanthemum and lotus flower. It attracts positive energy & opportunities to your home
02. Five-Colored Pollock: This five-colored bugeo was traditionally used as deco in Korea's Royal Court. It brings joyous news & happy memories to your home.
If you want to decorate your home with a touch of Korean culture, this is perfect!
Note: The white silk thread is included and comes wrapped around the bugeo.
