Golden sesame oil pouring from the spout of a stainless steel cold press

Gently Roasted, Pressed Cold

[Saebyeok Mill] 100% Cold-Pressed, Lightly Toasted Sesame Oil (200ml)

  • 100% Korean sesame seeds
  • 12°C cold-pressed
  • 1 ingredient
  • 200 mL glass bottle

Meet 100% Cold-Pressed Sesame Oil from Saebyeok Mill in Yangpyeong, the farming county just east of Seoul.

Most Korean sesame oil is made by roasting the seeds hard and pressing them hot. It's bold and familiar, but the heat changes the oil, and the bottle often ends with a layer of sediment at the bottom.

Saebyeok Mill does it differently. Native sesame seeds, grown only in Yangpyeong and never blended with seeds from other regions, come from the latest autumn harvest. They're rinsed three times in clean water, roasted gently at a low 60°C, then pressed just once at only 12°C (cold-pressed).

A cold press gives less than half the oil of a regular one, so it's a slower, costlier way to work. What you get is a clean, clear oil that still carries a rich sesame aroma. Customers love how it smells the moment the cap comes off, and how clear it stays, with no sediment in the bottle.

Some Korean parents use it in their babies' first foods, and plenty of regulars say it's the only sesame oil they buy now.

[Saebyeok Mill] 100% Cold-Pressed, Lightly Toasted Sesame Oil (200ml)

Golden sesame oil dripping slowly from a cold press

Gently roasted, pressed at 12°C

Most Korean sesame oil is made by roasting the seeds hard and pressing them hot. It's bold, but the heat changes the oil. Saebyeok Mill roasts gently, then presses the seeds at just 12°C (cold-pressed), keeping heat-driven changes to the oil to a minimum.

Less oil, a cleaner bottle

A cold press yields less than half of what a regular press does. In return you get a clean, clear oil with a light texture and a rich sesame aroma.

Sesame plants growing in a field in Yangpyeong

One county, one crop

Saebyeok Mill sits in Yangpyeong, a farming county east of Seoul, and makes its oil from the area's own produce. They press only native sesame seeds grown there, and never blend in seeds from other regions.

The seeds are rinsed three times in clean water before pressing, and nothing else goes in: the only ingredient is 100% Korean sesame seeds.

What Korean shoppers say

“Clean and nutty. This is my second bottle and I’ll buy it again.”

“No sediment at the bottom like the country-style oil I usually get. You can smell it before you even open it.”

“Cold-pressed, yet the sesame aroma is still rich.”

“You can tell from the smell alone. Love that it comes in glass.”

“Cabbage, minced garlic, sesame seeds and this oil. So good!”

“It hasn’t let me down once. This is the one I’ve settled on.”

Reviews from Saebyeok Mill's Korean store, translated by Gochujar.

How to enjoy it

Use it just as you would any sesame oil: over namul, bibimbap, kimbap, soups and rice bowls, or tossed through a simple cabbage salad with garlic. It shines when added at the end.
