[Young Miller] Black Foods Misugaru

  • Meal replacement
  • No added sugar
  • 100% Korea-grown grains
  • 118 kcal per serving

Meet Black Foods Misugaru, a dark, nutty blend of Korea’s “black foods”: black soybeans, black rice and black sesame.

It’s a close cousin of our Seoritae Black Soybean Misugaru, but with even more Seoritae (70%), plus black rice, brown rice and just a touch of black sesame. It’s more bean-forward, with a lighter sesame note.

Most misugaru is pan-roasted, which cooks the outside of each grain before the inside is done. Push it further and the outside burns; stop early and the middle stays underdone.

Young Miller takes a different approach. The grains are steamed under pressure and roasted in a single pass, so each one cooks evenly, inside and out.

What you get is a smooth, easy-to-drink powder with a deep, rounded nuttiness and 33 g of protein per 100 g. No added sugar, no additives, nothing in the bag but grain.

In Korea, misugaru is a classic meal replacement. Plenty of people have a glass instead of breakfast or lunch, especially when they’re dieting or trying to eat less. It’s filling and high in protein, and a 25 g serving is about 118 kcal before you add milk.

[Young Miller] Black Foods Misugaru

Young Miller Black Foods Misugaru 500 g pouch

Black Foods Misugaru

In Korea, “black foods” (블랙푸드) like black soybeans, black rice and black sesame are prized for their deep color and rich, nutty flavor. This misugaru brings them together in one glass.

It’s built on Seoritae (서리태), Korea’s prized black soybean, known for its high protein content and the naturally occurring anthocyanins in its deep-black skin.

With 33 g of protein per 100 g and no added sugar, it’s a filling drink that many people have in place of a meal — especially when they’re dieting or trying to eat less.

Full Ingredients List: 70% Korean Seoritae black soybeans, 15% black rice, 10% brown rice, and 5% black sesame seeds

Deep, nutty flavor with a smooth finish — made using a special pressure-roasting process

Misugaru made using the typical pan-roasting method cooks from the outside in, making it hard to roast evenly all the way through — often leaving the surface scorched while the inside stays undercooked.

However, Young Millers' method is different.

Young Miller's grains are not simply roasted on the surface — instead, both the inside and outside are steamed and roasted together at once under pressure. This means they cook evenly all the way through, giving the powder a truly rich, deep, nutty flavor with a smooth finish.

However if you prefer, you can add your own sugar, honey, or other sweeteners to taste.

Young Miller's founder at the family mill

What began 20 years ago at a grain market with my parents’ mill has evolved into Young Mill. With the same care, attention to detail, and integrity, we are committed to offering only honest, fresh products to our customers.

Young Miller's refrigerated grain storage

Preserving Harvest-Fresh Quality

Working alongside our parents at the mill, we often milled grains that customers brought to us. Over time, we noticed that many grains had been improperly stored at room temperature—resulting in spoilage, insect damage, or excessive dryness.

When such grains are roasted, no amount of skill or careful blending can compensate. The difference in flavor and aroma between properly stored grains and poorly stored ones is unmistakable.

In truth, storing a year’s supply of grains in low-temperature conditions is not easy.

At Young Mill, however, we are committed to delivering consistent, top-tier quality. That is why all sun-dried grains are transferred immediately upon harvest into large-scale refrigerated storage facilities. By maintaining low-temperature storage year-round, we preserve the grains’ harvest-fresh aroma and flavor.

From careful ingredient selection to strict storage standards, we remain uncompromising to ensure fresh, flavorful quality.

Young Miller's stainless-steel grinders

A Mill Specialized in Misugaru

Traditional grinders often leave the millstone exposed, making them vulnerable to dust and impurities. In many cases, millstones are also used for long periods without replacement.

Young Mill uses hygienic stainless-steel grinders, the same standard used for baby food preparation. This ensures a clean process and produces a fine, smooth texture with an exceptionally gentle mouthfeel.

Each of the ingredients for the misugaru are grown in Korea - not imported from China.

How do I make this misugaru?

Can I have this as a meal replacement?

Yes! Many people in Korea enjoy misugaru as a convenient meal replacement, often in place of breakfast or lunch, especially when they’re dieting or trying to eat less. With 33 g of protein per 100 g, it’s a filling, wholesome drink.

What's the recommended daily intake?

Young Miller's misugaru powder is a general food product, so there's no fixed serving size. That said, please adjust the amount to suit your body rather than consuming it in excess.

Does this have any sugar added to it?

Not at all - no sugar or salt added. It's 100% grains and beans - no preservatives or additives!

How is this different from the Seoritae Black Soybean Misugaru?

Both are pressure-roasted by Young Miller. Black Foods Misugaru leans further into black soybeans (70%), with black rice, brown rice and a little black sesame (5%). The Seoritae Black Soybean Misugaru has more black sesame (20%), for a stronger sesame note.

How do I store this?

Store in a cool, dry place. During humid summer months, we recommend refrigerating it.

What's the shelf life?

1 year from the date of manufacture. Please check the date printed on the package.

Does refrigerating or freezing extend the shelf life?

We recommend consuming all products within their labeled shelf life. Refrigerating or freezing does keep the product fresher than storing it in a cool place, but please note that it does not extend the shelf life itself.
