[Jinmi] Gluten-Free Gochujang

Gluten-Free, Vegan-Certified, Made in Korea

[Jinmi] Gluten-Free Gochujang

  • Certified gluten-free
  • Vegan certified
  • Korean chili & rice
  • Since 1948

Most gochujang is made with barley malt or wheat, which contain gluten. Jinmi’s Gluten-Free Gochujang (진미 우리찹쌀 고추장) uses Korean glutinous rice instead, so it keeps the classic gochujang flavor without the gluten.

It’s certified gluten-free by the Korea Gluten-Free Certification (KGFC) and vegan certified, so it works for anyone avoiding gluten, and for vegetarians and vegans.

Glutinous rice makes up 17.3% of the paste and Korean chili powder 13%. It has a medium heat, isn’t too sweet, and has a bright red color that’s perfect for bibimbap and any spicy Korean dish.

Jinmi Foods (진미식품) has been making fermented foods in Korea since 1948, and makes this gochujang in a HACCP-certified facility.

So what’s inside?

Full Ingredients List Oligosaccharide syrup, purified water, glutinous rice 17.3%, chili powder 13%, sea salt, soybeans, alcohol, sugar, garlic powder, yeast food and koji starter. The glutinous rice, chili powder, sea salt, soybeans and garlic are from Korea.

In the box One 320 g or 680 g jar, depending on the size you choose. Made by Jinmi Foods (㈜진미식품) in Goesan, South Korea.

To keep Keep it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight; refrigerating it after opening is best. Best before the date printed on the jar.

Good to know Contains soy. Gluten-free and vegan. Gochujang is naturally fermented, so it keeps releasing a little gas inside the jar. We vacuum-seal every jar before it ships to prevent leaks, but changes in air pressure during the flight can still push out a little gas or paste. It’s still safe to eat, and a small leak isn’t grounds for a refund or exchange.

Excellent quality and gluten free

Just like the other quality artisan gochujang’s offered by Gochujar, this one is no exception, but with the added plus of being gluten free! It has a very matured, rich taste and goes very well with a wide variety of dishes.

Delicious, gluten-free gochujang

Similar to the other gochujang offered by Gochujar, this one has a very rich flavor profile and you can definitely taste the difference from the varieties made with cheaper ingredients. Truly gluten-free options seem quite limited when it comes to gochujang (at least from what I could find). I've tried one from Sempio, which I have to say is considerably better (in both taste and ingredients) than other mass-produced varieties that are often chock full of corn syrup. But this one is even better than that.
