Korea's Original Herbal Hangover Tea
[Dawn 808 & 1004] Hangover Drink (119ml)
- First patented hangover drink
- Herbal tea, not soda
- 11 country patents
- 15 cans a box
Big night ahead? Do what Korean office workers have done for decades: crack open a can of Dawn 808 (여명808) first. It was the first hangover drink ever patented, in Korea or anywhere in the world, and it once topped beverage sales across Korea's convenience stores two years in a row.
Inventor Nam Jong-hyun failed 807 times before his 808th recipe finally worked, and his face is still on every can. What he landed on isn't an energy drink or a vitamin shot. It's a herbal tea, brewed mainly from alder tree and rowan extracts, with hazelnut, honey, jujube, ginger, gourd, licorice and kudzu flower. Today it's patented in 11 countries, including the US, and in 2025 it passed Korea's official human application test for hangover drinks.
Want it stronger? Dawn 1004 (여명1004) is the premium big brother in the black can. Glami concentrates the 808 formula to twice the strength and brews it with hot-spring water drawn from 808 m beneath Cheorwon.
Drink one about 20 minutes before your first glass, or after your last. Keep a box in the fridge, because it tastes best cold (Glami pours the 1004 over ice), and wake up ready for the day instead of losing it to a hangover.
Curious how it compares? Try it side by side with Korea's other classic, Condition.
So what's inside?

Korea's original herbal hangover tea
Dawn 808 (여명808) is the can Koreans reach for before a company dinner, a client night out or a long round of soju. It was the first hangover drink ever patented, in Korea or anywhere in the world, and it once topped beverage sales across Korea's convenience stores two years in a row.
It isn't a fizzy energy drink or a vitamin shot. It's a herbal tea, brewed mainly from alder tree and rowan (mountain ash) extracts, with hazelnut, honey, jujube, ginger, gourd, licorice and kudzu flower.
The name tells the story. Inventor Nam Jong-hyun failed 807 times, and the 808th recipe finally worked. His face is still on every can.
Patent and sales claims: Glami (그래미).

Available in a stronger formula
Dawn 1004 (여명1004) is Dawn 808's premium big brother, made for the nights that are hard to say no to. Glami concentrates the 808 formula to twice the strength and brews it with hot-spring water drawn from 808 m beneath Cheorwon.
Same herbal ingredient list, same 119 ml can, now in black. Each can has 94 kcal, and Glami suggests pouring it over ice, before or after a night out.
Its full name, 천사의 행복, means "an angel's happiness": 1004 is read cheon-sa in Korean, which sounds like the word for angel.

Patented in 11 countries
Dawn 808 holds patents in 11 countries, including the US, Japan, China and Canada. Glami, the company Nam founded in 1996, has won the grand prize or a gold medal at international invention fairs 16 times in a row, including three titles at the 1999 Invention & New Product Exposition in Pittsburgh. In 2008, Nam received Korea's Gold Tower Order of Industrial Service Merit, the country's top award for industry.
It's still going strong. In 2025 it passed the Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety's human application test for hangover drinks, and Korean consumers have voted it their most trusted hangover drink brand 17 years in a row.

So how does it taste?
Earthy and herbal, like a Korean herbal medicine tea, with a little sweetness from honey and fructooligosaccharide. It isn't the tastiest drink on our shelves, but it's the one many Koreans swear by. A 119 ml can has 75 kcal (808) or 94 kcal (1004).
How to drink it
Drink one can about 20 minutes before you start drinking. You can also have one after your last drink or before bed.
Glami's tip for the 1004: pour it over ice, before or after a night out.
Natural sediment from the herbs can settle in the can. It's safe to drink: just give the can a good shake before opening.
Keep it in a cool place out of direct sunlight. It tastes better chilled, so we keep ours in the fridge.
This is a food product, not a medicine, and it isn't intended to prevent or treat any disease. Please drink within reasonable limits.
