Bring tradition to the kitchen
[Nothyang] Traditional Korean Brass Chopstick Set (Classic Design)
Yugi - aka Korean brassware - is back in vogue.
Traditionally, every household in Korea owned a complete set of brassware. From tableware to cutlery, brass was the material of choice for its superb quality, beautiful luster and delicacy. In the old days, Koreans used porcelain bowls during the summer to add lightness and freshness to the table. But during the winter, it was swapped out with brassware. It's shiny, golden color makes food look more appetizing. And it retains heat better - preventing foods from getting cold.
After the Korean war, the era of consumer plastic ushered in and the majority of brassware factories went bankrupt. The few that survived kept the craft alive and still produce brassware in the traditional way.
Nothyang is famous for its modern take on traditional Korean Yugi.
Today, we feature their beautifully designed Classic spoon and chopstick set.
Both utensils are made from the traditional bangjja method - which involves heating lumps of brass and beating them with hammers. Bangjja brassware is also made with precisely 78% Copper and 22% Tin. This ratio creates a type of brassware that is strong and does not bend or break easily. You'll notice the premium quality once it's in your hands.
Nothyang was distinguished as the #1 Top Winner in "2020 Korea Best Brands" for Yugi Brassware. They are a premium Yugi brand from Korea and their products have even featured in mega-hit Korean Netflix/TV series like Itaewon Class, Private Lives (사생활) and 2 Days & 1 Night (2박1일).
If you're interested in traditional Korean tableware, start with this! It also makes for a beautiful, memorable gift!
^ they're a bit heavier than the wooden chopsticks i'm used to, but the weight feels nice and honestly makes using them and balancing food effortless. easy to clean and they look beautiful on the table.
I received it quite rapidly considering it comes from Korea and I live in France. I can't wait to offer it to my sister (who loves Korean food) for her birthday. I know it will be a success. I actually might buy one set for me now. Love it.
I received my package (in France) in time, in a beautiful package and accompanied by a nice thank you note. The products are beautiful and the quality is beyond my expectations. I strongly recommend it !
When the four sets arrived I was immediately impressed by their superb quality and craftsmanship. The spoons and chopsticks are very comfortable to handle, and are attractive as table settings as well. I must mention that this company is top tier as they are doing all the right things to promote customer satisfaction: their products and customer service are excellent; e.g., I had placed my order close to Chuseok (a holiday similar to Thanksgiving) so I was notified there would be a short delay in sending my parcel, which was fine; items are carefully wrapped/packaged for shipping; a handwritten thank you note was included in the parcel; a followup email was sent to ask if I was happy with what I had received. Thank you, Gochujar, from this
Bangjja is indeed something special. The sujeo are simply beautiful and make any meal into a feast. I’m impressed by how fast the delivery was. Certainly not the last time I bought some kitchenware. 고마워

1. Each piece is handmade - not identical
Nothyang makes their Yugi piece by hand (i.e. not bulk made in large-scale factories).
As a result, there may be subtle differences in size and look (i.e. minor scratches/blemishes/stains).
Note: These minor imperfections do not qualify as "damaged' item.
2. DOn't use stainless steel scrubbers/wool
Instead, use the regular 3M Dishwashing Sponges (use the dark-green, coarse side)
3. SOAK IN VINEGAR BEFORE FIRST USE!
Before first use, soak the Yugi ware in lukewarm water - with a touch of vinegar.
How much? Use a ratio of 2 Cups Water to 1 Tablespoon Vinegar.
Soak for 30 mins - 1 hour (not any longer - set a timer).
Then rinse it off again with soap & water. Then dry-off thoroughly with a towel.
FAQ ABOUT YUGI
A: After 2-3 months of regular usage, the Yugi dishes will shine even brighter - you'll see it natural golden sheen (assuming you're taken care of the yugi properly.)
A: Yes, you may smell a slight metallic - or some call it a "fishy" - smell from the Yugi.
This is actually the smell of copper! (It's normal - and part of the break-in process)
To remove the smell, do the following steps:
1. Soak the Yugi in a mixture of hot water & vinegar (ratio mentioned above) for 10 minutes.
2. Then scrub it down with soap & dish sponge, followed by a rinse under hot running water.
3. Place it back into the water & vinegar for additional 10 minutes.
4. Then scrub it down again with soap & dish sponge, followed by a rinse under hot running water.
5. Dry off completely!
This should remove the smell. But if you still smell a faint smell, don't worry...
... after a few weeks of regular usage and washing, it should disappear!
A: No, Yugi is for plating/serving only (not for cooking). Do not place over any stovetop (coil, induction, gas, etc).
A: After washing the Yugi dishes, wipe the Yugi down completely DRY with a towel (there should be no wet spots on the Yugi).
To remove the stain, use the back side of a dry 3M Dishwasher Sponge (use the coarse, dark green side).
Again, make sure the 3M sponge is dry - it doesn't work if its wet.
Rub the back side of the dry sponge on the stain. You'll see the stain come off as a fine black powder. Give it a quick rinse with water and soap.
Then dry it off completely with a kitchen towel. The stain should be gone now.
Soak it in a mixture of baking soda & vinegar - for 30 minutes. Afterwards, wash it off with soap and scrub-off any remaining stains with the backside of a 3M kitchen sponge. Then rinse it off again and dry it off completely with a kitchen towel!
Note: If baking soda & vinegar isn't working. I would recommend using Tomato Juice (yes, it works!). Fill a large pot (or other large container) with equal parts tomato juice & water (1:1 ratio). Soak the yugi in this tomato mixture for 30 minutes. Afterwards, wash it off with water and soap. Then scrub-off any remaining stains with the backside of a 3M kitchen sponge. Then rinse it off again and dry it off completely with a kitchen towel!
