[Young Miller] Traditional Old-Style Misugaru

This is Young Millers' tribute to the misugaru Grandma used to make — floating ice cubes in a big bowl, stirred up sweet, just for you, on a summer afternoon.

This honors that taste: 100% Korea-grown grains, nothing added, no sugar.

Most misugaru is made by pan-roasting the grains from the outside in, which can scorch the surface before the center is evenly cooked.

Young Millers takes a different approach.

Using a specialized pressure-roasting method, they steam and roast each grain evenly—inside and out—in a single pass. This creates a smooth, gentle texture without any heaviness. The result is a deeper, rounder flavor that tastes distinctly nutty, balanced, and true to the grains.

So what's this Traditional Old-Style Misguaru made of?

Full Ingredients List: Barley 60%, black soybean (seoritae) 10%, white soybean (baektae) 10%, brown rice 10%, glutinous rice 10% — all Korea-grown.

To prepare: Stir 5 heaping scoops (25g) into 200ml of milk or soy milk. You can add a touch of honey, if preferred.

To keep: Store sealed in a cool, dry place; refrigerate through the humid summer months.

In Korea, many people like to make a cup of misugaru in the morning (as a meal replacement for breakfast).

Deep, nutty flavor with a smooth finish — made using a special pressure-roasting process

Misugaru made using the typical pan-roasting method cooks from the outside in, making it hard to roast evenly all the way through — often leaving the surface scorched while the inside stays undercooked.

However, Young Millers' method is different.

Young Miller's grains are not simply roasted on the surface — instead, both the inside and outside are steamed and roasted together at once under pressure. This means they cook evenly all the way through, giving the powder a truly rich, deep, nutty flavor with a smooth finish.

Q. How should it be stored?

Store in a cool, dry place. During humid summer months, we recommend refrigerating it.

Q. What's the shelf life?

Shelf life varies by product, so please check the date printed on top of the package.

What began 20 years ago at a grain market with my parents’ mill has evolved into Young Mill. With the same care, attention to detail, and integrity, we are committed to offering only honest, fresh products to our customers.

Preserving Harvest-Fresh Quality

Working alongside our parents at the mill, we often milled grains that customers brought to us. Over time, we noticed that many grains had been improperly stored at room temperature—resulting in spoilage, insect damage, or excessive dryness.

When such grains are roasted, no amount of skill or careful blending can compensate. The difference in flavor and aroma between properly stored grains and poorly stored ones is unmistakable.

In truth, storing a year’s supply of grains in low-temperature conditions is not easy.

At Young Mill, however, we are committed to delivering consistent, top-tier quality. That is why all sun-dried grains are transferred immediately upon harvest into large-scale refrigerated storage facilities. By maintaining low-temperature storage year-round, we preserve the grains’ harvest-fresh aroma and flavor.

From careful ingredient selection to strict storage standards, we remain uncompromising to ensure fresh, flavorful quality.

A Mill Specialized in Misugaru

Traditional grinders often leave the millstone exposed, making them vulnerable to dust and impurities. In many cases, millstones are also used for long periods without replacement.

Young Mill uses hygienic stainless-steel grinders, the same standard used for baby food preparation. This ensures a clean process and produces a fine, smooth texture with an exceptionally gentle mouthfeel.
