Rich in Omega-3 Fatty Acid (ALA)
[Bangyudang] Lightly Toasted Perilla Oil (P1)
Fish like tuna, salmon, and mackerel are well-known sources of Omega-3 fatty acids. But perilla seeds contain more ALA — the plant form of Omega-3 — than any other plant source. One tablespoon of perilla oil has roughly the same ALA content as a whole mackerel.
Bangyudang is an artisan grain roastery in Gwangju, Korea, with over 50 years of experience. This is their lightly-roasted perilla oil.
The seeds undergo a brief, low-heat roast — just enough to remove moisture — then are pressed into oil. No high-temperature roasting.
The result is a light, subtle oil that retains nearly all of its natural nutrition, including its Omega-3 content.
A word on flavor: this oil is noticeably milder than a medium-toasted perilla oil — less fragrant, less aromatic. If you're used to the bold, nutty character of toasted perilla oil, this will taste quite different. The tradeoff is nutrition: skipping the high-heat roast means the oil holds onto significantly more of its natural Omega-3 content.
Because the flavor is delicate, it works best as a finishing oil rather than a cooking oil. Drizzle it over pan-fried tofu, stir-fried mushrooms, or Japchae just before serving. It also works well as a salad dressing base or a simple rice topping.
Store at room temperature (15–20°C), at room temperature, away from sunlight. (Note: Do not store in refrigerator — condensation is the enemy).
Available in 200ml and 320ml.

Perilla Oil (P1) - Light Roast
Roast Level: Low
Aroma: Fresh · Crisp
Recommended for: Raw dishes · Mild-heat cooking
The P1 perilla oil is lighter and cleaner. It has a softer nutty aroma, so it works well in dishes where you want a more delicate perilla flavor, like dressings or lightly seasoned foods.
vs.
Perilla Oil (P3) - Medium Roast
Roast Level: Medium
Aroma: Deep · Rich
Recommended for: Banchans (muchim) · Mixed Dishes (Bibim)
This P3 perilla oil is deeper and bolder. It has a thicker, smokier nutty aroma, so it is better for stronger dishes where you want the perilla oil flavor to stand out.

“Inspired by the symbolic patterns of Korean gilsanghwa, each bottle reflects the value of time.”
Time-honored tradition, bottled for you.

Why store this in a cool pantry, not the fridge?
The four enemies of oil quality:
Light · Oxygen · Heat · Moisture · Metals & Enzymes
❌ Do not store near direct sunlight or in hot areas: Direct sunlight and UV exposure can break down the oil’s chemical structure, speeding up oxidation and spoilage.
✅ Room Temperature Storage: Store in a cool indoor place away from direct light (15-20°C). This is the best way to preserve your oil’s quality over time.
❌ Refrigerator Storage: Although refrigeration reduces heat exposure, condensation can introduce moisture, which may degrade the oil’s quality.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Can I cook with traditional oils over heat?
We generally don't recommend cooking Sesame Oil S4 or Perilla Oil P3 over high heat. That said, they work fine for everyday home cooking over medium heat. If you do cook at higher temperatures, try adding the oil as a finishing drizzle after cooking — it brings out a richer, nuttier flavor.
Perilla Oil P1 and Sesame Oil S2, being more lightly roasted, work well as a substitute for regular cooking oil, adding a gentle nuttiness and aroma to your dishes.
Q. How much traditional oil should I use per day?
Traditional sesame and perilla oils are rich in unsaturated fatty acids, which support overall health. Perilla oil in particular is high in Omega-3 (α-Linolenic Acid / ALA) — Bangyudang's perilla oil contains approximately 63g of ALA per 100g.
According to the Korean Ministry of Health & Welfare Dietary Reference Intakes (2020), the recommended daily ALA intake for adult men aged 19–29 is 1.6g.
This means just one spoonful (approx. 10g) of perilla oil per day comfortably meets the recommended intake. However, since both sesame and perilla oils are plant-based high-fat foods, excessive consumption may lead to excess calories and increased body fat.
1–2 tablespoons (10–30g) per day is the sweet spot — used naturally as a salad dressing, vegetable seasoning, or drizzled over rice or noodle dishes.

"What makes our perilla oil different?"
Every seed. Every flame. Every detail matters.
Bangyudang is the brand that knows the difference best.
1. Moisture content of the seed
"The moisture in a washed and dried seed determines everything about its aroma. Too much moisture and the oil turns dull and grassy. Too little and it scorches"
▶ Bangyudang controls moisture to the optimal level — preserving the seed's truest, most natural aroma.
2. Roasting temperature & time
"The intensity of the flame defines the depth of the flavor. From a soft, delicate taste to a bold, deeply roasted nuttiness — the flame is everything"
▶ Bangyudang achieves a perfectly balanced aroma through its proprietary 3-stage radiant heat roasting process.
3. Rapid cooling immediately after roasting
"Lock in the aroma before it escapes."
▶ The moment roasting is complete, our rapid cooling technology captures the nutty aroma at its peak — preserving deep, full flavor all the way to the very last drop.
4. Bangyudang's micro-filtration system — purity, uncompromised
"Crystal clear. Stable. Long-lasting. Micro-filtration removes impurities, minimizing the risk of degradation even over extended storage."
▶ You get perilla oil that stays pure and clear, from the first drop to the last.

BGST Process & Technology
"Bangyudang goes beyond simple roasting. We've developed a multi-dimensional BGST + α technology stack — engineered to maximize both nutty flavor and safety."
#1 — Bangyudang Moisture Standard - Optimal moisture calibrated per seed variety — maximizing roasted aroma from the very first step.
#2 — Far-Infrared Roasting · BGST - Even heat penetration to the core of every grain — unlocking deep, full-bodied flavor throughout.
#3 — Aroma-Lock Rapid Cooling - Precision cooling immediately post-roast — locking in peak nuttiness so nothing is lost.
#4 — Rancidity Compound Reduction & Filtration - Research-grade micro-filtration that minimizes oxidation factors and extends oil purity.
#Etc — And More - Ongoing efforts including carbon footprint reduction and broader sustainability considerations.

Far-Infrared Roasting — Health & Flavor, Preserved in Every Drop
Far-infrared light and heat penetrate uniformly to the core of every grain. This raises the phenolic content and antioxidant capacity of both sesame and perilla — extending freshness and intensifying flavor.
⬆⬆⬆ Flavor Depth - Richer, more complex aroma
⬆⬆⬆ Antioxidant Compounds - Higher phenolic activity
⬆⬆⬆ Freshness Retention - Stays pure and stable longer
⬇⬇⬇ Bitter Notes - Smoother, cleaner finish
